THE COOP MEET AND PLAY: A BIOMIMETIC STRUCTURAL ORGANISM IN KIGALI,RWANDA
This project was designed for a school that will take place in the second-grade art and design studio course in Rwanda, Africa. This meet-and-play structure has been positioned for the next school project. It was requested to use biomimicry in this project. For the project, I researched a bird (Hadada Ibis) species found in Rwanda, Africa. It is named for its loud three to four-note calls uttered in flight, especially in the mornings and evenings when they fly out to return to their roost trees. It has an extremely loud and distinctive ''haa-haa-haa-de-dah'' call. I also named the project after the sound that the bird makes. Different areas were created in the project. Climbing and chicken coops for children were integrated with each other. The budget was reduced by using indigenous materials (Bamboo) in the project. Children can climb this bamboo and make sounds with them due to the changing angles of the bamboo. Codes were written so that the people who were there could easily implement this project. These codes were also inspired by the bird's voice. In addition, this coop was oriented in a suitable position for sunlight in the next project and the formation of shade areas was ensured. The concept considered for this project was to use origami in architecture.
