EXTENDING LITTLE ANGELS SCHOOL IN KIGALI,RWANDA
This project was a project where additions and restorations were requested to be made for the school named 'Little Angels School' located in Africa in the second-grade art and design studio course. For this project, the use of indigenous materials was requested to design a school campus where indigenous people could easily build. This project was planned to be done in real life, it was a project where we were constantly in contact with people who were there and presented our design process. As a result, the project I designed was selected and a presentation was made to the people who will be responsible for this project who live there.First of all, I decided to tidy up the site around an axis. With this decision, I designed a courtyard at a central point. The purpose of this courtyard is that all classes have something in common. I have placed music rooms in this area so that a fun environment can be created between classes. Children can dance. The ornamental pool located at the very back is not just an element of environmental design. The two first school blocks are located right in front of this ornamental pool. Rainwater will be collected under the ground with drainage pipes, filtered here and transferred to the ornamental pool. A tank can be made underground in case the water overflows. This water can also be used in case of any fire. I have designed learning spaces outside of these areas. The form of these fields is inspired by class blocks. In addition, wooden planks located on the buildings are a seating area for children. The buildings will be made of brick. And the windows will be steel. I designed two different height windows on the facade. I tried to create a rhythm between the height and color differences. In addition, the roofs will also be made of steel plates. The broken form and slope of the roof will give the structures dynamism.
